The BT Openreach 2025 PSTN & ISDN Switch Off

BT will be switching off traditional phone lines in 2025. Don’t worry, we’re not trying to scare you, we want you to understand clearly exactly what that means.

What’s really happening?

If you haven’t heard already, BT will be switching off traditional phone lines in 2025. Don’t worry, we’re not trying to scare you, we want you to understand clearly exactly what that means.

BT intends to switch off the traditional networks for good. They plan to stop supplying ISDN and PSTN in 2020 with an aim to move to a full migration by 2025.

But why?

The reason traditional lines will be switched off comes down to the fact they no longer meet demand for new technology. For example, it doesn’t support data connections (the internet) and it’s restricted to a slim amount of benefits, such as voicemail and the nifty 1471.

The changes are also being driven by the fact that the current infrastructure is running equipment which is reaching its end of life – parts and skills to repair them are becoming scarce.

But what does it mean for me?

In short, you need to ensure that you have a solution ready – there’s still time to prepare, so don’t panic.

However, if you’re looking for a new phone system, you need to make the right choice so that you don’t have to spend twice.

Not only that but new technology allows you to do more such as record calls and use the internet to make calls, reducing your costs in the long term.
